There’s a really great reason I love writing love stories…and that’s because they can really happen. I’m living one. Life throws the odd mega-whopper curve ball from time to time, but the most wonderful part of my life is I’m living a crazy, silly, sappy, happy-tear-jerking, true romantic comedy. I loooove sappy, btw.
My husband and I adore each other (romantic). One of his favorite things to do is to make me laugh—and he does that frequently (comedy). Lots of people have this, and I celebrate their love, too; lots of people don’t, and I celebrate them finding whatever their heart wants.
Here’s what I posted on Facebook for our anniversary today: “Eleven years ago, at just about this time of day, my soon-to-be husband and soon-to-be kids and I were singing “Going to the Chapel” in 4-part harmony as we drove to a chapel (of sorts) to get married. That’s one of my favorite moments in the history of ever. Happy Anniversary to my star, my best friend, my biggest blessing, my most cherished part of my life.”
Here’s a love song I wrote for him….
We often wish we’d met long ago
But if we’d met back then, wishing upon that star
If we’d met once upon that daydream
I wouldn’t have realized who, what, all you really are
It took a lifetime of twists, turns, bends and burns
Plus many—too many—a long, lonely, dark night
But time always gets there, and I’m glad it waited
For us to be ready, to know when it’s right
If we could do before all over again
Even with all that we’ve gone through
I wouldn’t change one thing, take away one scar
It took it all—it took it all—to find you
I had so much to learn, a world to discover
I had to come to know my worth, my value
Before a love like ours, a love worth waiting for
Could find us, settle in, me and you
Youth has speed and beauty and vitality
But age has wisdom and power and time to allow
All those old moments of joy put together
Don’t equal—would never equal—one moment of now
If we could do before all over again
Even with all that we’ve gone through
I wouldn’t change one thing, take away one scar
It took it all—it took it all—to find you
Love is all there is, all there’ll ever be
And the love I share with you here
Lets me see and touch and hear and feel
The love that is everything everywhere.
If nothing else in my entire life worked out
I’d know what true love is, how it can thrive
Beyond wistful wishings, movies or fairy tales
I’d have solid proof that dreams come alive
If we could do before all over again
Even with all that we’ve gone through
I wouldn’t change one thing, take away one scar
It took it all—it took it all—to find you
